OBEY Clothing was founded in 2001 by Shepard Fairey as an extension of his already well established street art campaign and acclaimed artwork.
Shepard Fairey studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the OBEY campaign started with a sticker he created while studying there. The OBEY campaign is rooted in punk rock and skateboarding and also takes influence from popular culture, commercial marketing and political messaging.

OBEY clothing is an extension of this message in Shepard’s art. The range is heavily inspired by classic military design, work wear with unique twists through the elements and cultural movements which have influenced Shepard’s range of work. Working with designers Mike Temosky and Erin Wignall, Shepard Fairey aims to create styles that represent the same ideals and philosophies as his body of artwork. “OBEY is about variety and experience, thinking about your surroundings and questioning the purpose.”
